My talk will examine the emerging field of leximetrics, which is concerned with the systematic collection of data on legal systems, and with analysis of their relationship to economic development and growth. Creating new datasets using these techniques has been a focus of research carried out in Cambridge over the past decade. I will describe how making the data available to the research community from an early stage helped us to improve data quality, facilitate its wider diffusion, and encourage its use in policy formation.
